Music : A. B. Skhy - A. B. Skhy LP (1969)
MGM Records
Blues rock band with some jazzy stylings from late 60s San Francisco (by manner of Milwaukee). It features the slap-up Howard Wales on keys. The whole album is kinda meh except it features an the absolute monster clav/hammond jazz funk track "Camel Dorsum". Get information technology on 45 if you want to get direct to the chase. If you need some more than rediculousness from Howie Wales, cheque the moog funker "Karnaval" off his 1976 LPRendezvous With The Sun.

Music : A-Ko - Chicago 12" (2006)
Melting Pot Music – MPM022
For the better part of the 2000s, Iowa native Nash Wiley (aka A-Ko) spent most of his young adulthood combing the Soul Strut forums for obscure stone records with upbeat drum breaks and 60s lounge records a la Costless Design. Along with a coiffure of other Soul Struttters, A-Ko would post astonishing DJ Shadow / RJ-D2 inspired b-boy hip hop instrumentals that eventually got the attention of German label MPM (Melting Pot Music) Records. The same label that released the Soul Strut EP in 2004 and others by Soul Strutters like DJ 24-hour interval.
This 12" features A-Ko's knack for marrying caput-banging b-male child breaks with melodic pianos ("Chicago"), moog samples with slowed downward, time-stretched funk 45s ("Burn"), and another version of his debut 45 on MPM, the lo-fi b-boy instrumental classic "Soul'69".
Nash tin be found today on Instagram @TrashWiley posting his dearest for fixing upwards 70s vans and dropping the occasionall funk 45 gem. It'south a shame A-Ko never went on to more mainstream recognition, simply if and when the downtempo genre makes it's comeback, this will be a grail.

DJ Mix : Justin Torres - The Suspension Up Messages (2008)
Bay area's Justin Torres is a truthful 60s/70s soul music historian. The Break Upward Messages, originally posted online in 2008 by Skillful Records NYC, is a middle wrenching mix of rare soul and funk. Besides worth noting is that portions of this mix were culled from raw reels rescued from the vaults of famed Berkeley, CA distributor/record store Music City. So there are songs on here that are completely unknown and unavailable on vinyl… The admittedly killer funk-psych burner "Choirs In My Teardrops" is maybe the most criminal example of a record that never was, just Real Heads volition observe the DJ Shadow-remixed "This Time" (here equally "Untitled") by, simply, "Joe". This mix is the first appearance of the rails and the Genesis of Shadow's piece.

DJ Mix : The Angela Lansbury Workout Mix
This continues to be one of my favorite mixes e'er submitted to the site. My ADD A.S.S. tends to favor half 60 minutes mixes like this packed to the gills with ill grooves and breaks jacked from random one-time rock records. It's but enough to accept up Side A of a cassette. Nonetheless… this fabricated it past the Soundcloud conscience illuminati too! Njoy!

DJ Mix : Diego - Somatopsicopneumático (2011)
Self professed Brazilian music aficionado Diego submitted this killer mix in 2011. He somehow scammed his mode onto an airplane and ended up in Sao Paulo & Rio with a copy of Caetano's Tropical Truth in his backpack. At that place he made some dandy new friends and found some very one-time records. From people slinging vinyl at bars, colorful Sao Paulo flea markets and a very experimental record shop in Lapa, he came up on some stuff he never heard before. Relish the results!

This is the more than acclaimed of the two… a wonderfully pieced-together masterpiece of psych, stone, Stinky Steve ramblings, and drum breaks that'll satisfy famished hip hop producers. Decoding thread hither.

DJ Mix : Helm Planet Mystery Trip Vol. one
Charlie B. Wilder aka Captain Planet is some other Soul Strut alumni who went on to practice bigger things. In 2012, he submitted this tasty mix to Soul Strut.
Went back to my roots on this one, including the format- released on cassette tape only. This 45min mix is a collection of pretty obscure tracks from around the earth, recorded from vinyl, chopped and re-arranged, and laced with my own production touches. At that place'southward also some snippets of field recordings I've made while travelling. I left the names of sampled artists undisclosed, because I feel like in the era of shazam, people demand to be encouraged to dig more. If you lot call up you lot recognize a few of the original recordings used in here, then you could win a one-of-a-kind hand-painted boombox.
